Overpriced data plans for Canadian mobile users

The data rate plans offered by the 3 major mobile providers in Canada are simply excessive and disproportionate compared to the data plans available in the US. Here's an article in the Montreal Gazette about this situation:

In truth, there's very little Canadian demand for wireless Internet, because the three big service providers - Rogers, Bell Canada and Telus Corp. - charge such spectacularly high prices for wireless data transmission. - Full article.

In fact, I am wondering if getting a US plan and paying extra for roaming would be less expensive than a local plan for a serious mobile data user??
